What ring sizes should I take into account?
When it comes to rings, aesthetics matter, of course. But before the design, the type of stone or the metal, there is a fundamental question: what is my size? Or rather: what are the ring sizes and how do I know mine?
At Gordillo Jewellery, where tradition and precision go hand in hand, this is one of the questions we hear most often. Because a ring must not only look good: it must fit perfectly. Neither too loose nor too tight. Neither uncomfortable, nor prone to getting lost. We tell you everything you need to know so that getting the right size is as easy as enjoying the jewellery.
Why are ring measurements so important?
Unlike other jewellery, a ring is in direct contact with the body at a fixed point: the finger. A small margin of error can result in discomfort or even loss of the piece. Moreover, each finger has a different circumference and can vary according to the time of day, temperature or even pregnancy. That's why knowing your size -or the size of the person you are thinking of giving it to- is key.
And if the ring is an engagement ring, the pressure to get it right increases. Don't worry: there are simple and discreet ways to get that size without spoiling the surprise.

How ring measurements are expressed
Ring sizes vary according to the sizing system used. In Spain, as in a large part of Europe, the European size system, which measures the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres. For example, a size 14 corresponds to a ring with an inner circumference of 54 mm.
In other countries, such as the United Kingdom or the United States, different letters or numbers are used. So if you are buying international jewellery, it is always a good idea to check a ring size conversion chart to avoid errors.
How to know your ring size?
Here are some easy and effective ways to find out your size:
1. Use a ring you already have
If you already have a ring that fits perfectly, place it on a ruler and measure the inside diameter (edge to edge, not counting the thickness of the metal). You can then use a sizing chart to identify what size it is.
2. Ring gauge
At Gordillo Jewellery, We offer specific measuring devices that you can order to use at home. You can also come to our workshop for us to measure your size accurately. The ideal time is mid-afternoon, when your toes are neither swollen nor contracted.
Measuring the finger directly
Wrap a strip of paper or thread around your finger and mark the point where it overlaps. Then measure that length in millimetres - and remember! The measurement should allow the ring to fit over the knuckle comfortably.
What if it is a gift?
This is where the art of discretion comes into play. You can “borrow” a ring from the person (make sure it is on the right finger) and measure it. Or ask someone close to you who may have that information. In our jewellery shop we also offer subsequent adjustments in case the size is not exact.

Fitting a ring: is it possible?
Yes, most rings can be adjusted, especially if they are made of gold or platinum. At Gordillo Jewellers We have our own workshop where we carry out these adjustments professionally and without altering the original design. However, certain models with complex settings or stones that surround the entire band may have limitations. But don't worry, we will find a valid solution for you.
Beyond size: comfort and design
Ring measures do not only affect the fit, but also the wearing sensation. A wide ring, for example, may require a slightly larger size. The interior design also has an influence. At Gordillo we advise you taking into account all these factors so that the choice is as technical as it is aesthetic.
