The Oyster Perpetual AirKing celebrates the aeronautical heritage of the original Oyster. It pays tribute to those for whom heaven was a new frontier of adventure, exploration and groundbreaking achievement, a springboard for new ideals.
The AirKing attests to the privileged relationship between Rolex and aviation during its golden age, in the 1930s. It pays tribute to the pilots of the time and the role of the Oyster in the aerial feat. The 1930s saw a dazzling technical evolution of airplanes, which allowed long-haul flights to be inaugurated. Several pilots set records wearing an Oyster on their wrist. Others used a watch Rolex as an on-board chronometer, following the example of Owen CathcartJones and Ken Waller who, in 1934, managed to complete a round trip flight between London (Great Britain) and Melbourne (Australia) in record time, aboard a twin-engine De Havilland Comet.
UNIQUE AESTHETIC
The current Air-King is distinguished by its black dial that combines, for optimal reading of navigation times, large hour numbers - 3, 6 and 9 - with a particularly visible minute scale. The symbolic crown of Rolex is displayed in yellow on the dial, while the seconds hand and the name «Rolex» are green, alluding to the emblematic color of Rolex. Since the watch was introduced in 1958, the “Air-King” inscription has been present in characters that make the model easily recognizable.
Since 2022, its 40 mm case incorporates crown guards and the sides of the case are straight, as in most models in the Professional category. The display of the watch has also been reformulated, for a perfectly harmonious result, with the introduction of a "0" in front of the number 5 at the 1 o'clock position on the minute scale. From now on, each five-minute interval is marked by two numbers. The AirKing numbers 3, 6 and 9 are now also visible in the dark thanks to the Chromalight display.
RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE
The Oyster case of the Air-King, an example of robustness and reliability, guarantees water resistance up to 100 meters. Its case is made from a solid block of Oystersteel, an alloy that is particularly resistant to corrosion. The AirKing is fitted with a three-piece Oyster bracelet in Oystersteel.
This bracelet is equipped with an Oysterlock safety clasp, designed and patented by Rolex, which prevents any involuntary opening. It also has the comfortable Easylink quick extension system that allows you to easily adjust its length by around 5 mm.

The Air-King is equipped with the caliber 3230, a self-winding mechanical movement completely developed and manufactured by Rolex. It presents high performance in terms of precision, autonomy, shock resistance, comfort of use and reliability. This movement is equipped with the blue Parachrom hairspring and also has the patented Chronergy escapement. Its power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.
SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION
like all clocks Rolex, the Air-King is Superlative Chronometer certified. This designation attests that each watch that leaves the brand's workshops has successfully passed a series of tests carried out by Rolex in its internal laboratories and according to its own criteria. Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with all watches Rolex and that it is accompanied by an international guarantee of five years.
